Our Commitment
The magnitude of climate change and the urgency to act have created a consensus. Cascades decided to think big and commit to reducing its GHG emissions by 2030 in line with scientific recommendations.
The company is proud to join a growing number of global leaders committed to reducing their GHG emissions based on the recommendations of the Science Based Targets Initiatives (SBTi).
Our new reduction targets cover our scope 1, 2 and 3 GHG emissions, i.e. emissions related to our operations, the energy we buy and those generated by our logistics and supply chain.

Focusing on Energy Efficiency
More than 20 years ago, Cascades put in place a team of experts dedicated to increasing energy efficiency in our plants. Their projects help to reduce energy consumption as well as the company's scopes 1 and 2 GHG emissions. This work is essential to reducing our impact on the climate.
Major Progress
Since Cascades’ carbon footprint is closely tied to that of its energy suppliers, the company decided to make an ambitious shift and commit to achieving 100% renewable electricity by 2030. In doing so, a clear signal is being sent in favour of greening the North American electricity grid.
Commitment from our supply chain
The success of Cascades’ transition to carbon neutrality also depends on improvements in its supply chain. Our teams are working directly with our largest suppliers to limit the GHG emissions associated with our purchases. Logistics optimization will also help reduce the emissions generated by transporting our inputs and products.
Setting Our Sights on Renewable Energy
With facilities like the Alain Lemaire solar park, Cascades is working to increase the proportion of renewable energy used by its plants.
Helping Our Employees Plug In
Knowing that transportation plays a big role in individual GHG emissions, Cascades is helping its employees acquire an electric vehicle.
2016-2020 Sustainable Development Plan
In addition to the work already done since 1990, Cascades has set an ambitious target to further reduce its GHG emissions by 2020. This target is part of its Sustainable Development Plan for 2016-2020.
